Mardan's Mark has won a couple of awards: Winner, 2014 Novel Rocket Launch Pad Contest, MG/YA Category and Finalist, 2014 Phoenix Rattler writing contest, Christian Writers of the West (CWOW) - Arizona's ACFW affiliate.
In 2015, I was honored when my story, "The Confession," was selected as the first place speculative entry in the Writers on the Storm Category 5 Short Story Contest. Death is not their deepest fear.

Abducted by pirates and taken behind enemy lines across the Great Gulf, Princess Srilani is determined to save her sisters and younger brother, the crown prince, from captivity.

She convinces their caretaker, Aldan, and his brother slaves to share the perilous journey home. This ragtag group of unlikely heroes sets out on a quest — pursued by cutthroat pirates, merciless priests, and marauding soldiers — to return the heir to his kingdom before war breaks out.

In this epic adventure fantasy, Srilani and Aldan risk everything to save a prince and a nation, discovering along the way that death is not their deepest fear.

The fever is back, and people in Northern Marst are dying.

After Elilan’s husband dies under her care, she abandons her divine gift of healing. What good is the “gift” if she can’t save those she loves?

Her faith is put to the test when the king commands her to nurse a seriously wounded enemy soldier back to health. Will she rely on her knowledge of medicine or entrust her patient’s life—and her good name—to the One who gave her the gift she has neglected? Elilan must decide what she really believes when death threatens again.

Healer's Curse is a companion novella in the Mardan's Mark series. Read it before or after Mardan's Mark (Book One).

For heroes, a happy ending is not assured.

When Aldan and Srilani return the heir safely home, they are greeted with coldness and suspicion.

Rumors plague Srilani as she resumes her First Princess duties. Friends are few, and intrigue is around every corner. Who betrayed them before their abduction? Who is plotting treachery now?

Enemies are everywhere, and Aldan desperately needs allies. Keeping his identity secret is essential, but the king is wary, his countrymen are hostile, and time is short.

Read this thrilling installment in the Mardan’s Mark epic adventure fantasy series.

What Readers Say About the Series

Mardan's Mark is a fast paced fantasy with twists and turns. It is a heart-pounding novel that leaves you wanting more. The characters are many, but unique in personality from one another. They become more like friends or family by the end of the book. This book is packed with adventure! It is clean with no graphic violence, sexual content, or profanity. It is a must read for anyone who likes action, adventure, appropriate romance, or fantasy. I can't wait to read more from Kathrese McKee!

I loved

Mardan's Mark
and was eager to read the accompanying novella. So often companion books are not up to the level of the main titles. Not The Healer's Curse. It's tightly written and engaging. While it's not required reading for Mardan's Mark, the story goes deeper into the complex politics of the series. I love that Kathrese has a heroine who happens to be black as well as a diverse cast of secondary characters.
